SimplePractice is a general practice management platform with lactation templates, a clinician mobile app, and electronic insurance claims.
The catch for IBCLCs is the tier structure. SimplePractice's Starter plan ($49/month) doesn't include secure messaging, general appointment reminders, custom note templates, or analytics. Starter does include reminders for telehealth appointments; you need Essential at $79/month for reminders across appointment types. Multi-provider teams need the Plus plan at $99/month, with extra clinicians at $69-74 each.
NuBloom has one $59/month plan without feature tiers. Messaging, reminders, charting, billing, offline mode, growth charts, and team management are not gated by plan. Usage-based SMS ($0.05 for each text past 200 a month), insurance checks ($0.75 for each completed check), and claim filing ($1.25 for each claim the clearinghouse accepts) are separate. Both send electronic insurance claims. SimplePractice's claim rates start at $0.39 and depend on volume. NuBloom charges $1.25 for each accepted claim, with claim status follow-up and ERA handling included. The tradeoff is clear: SimplePractice has a native mobile app and integrations.
