Best For Your Situation

Best overall value

NuBloom

$59/month gets you every feature: lactation-specific charting, offline mode, insurance claims, patient portal, messaging, and unlimited clients. No tiers, no caps, no add-on fees. The closest all-inclusive competitor costs $79–129/month for similar capabilities.

Best for solo IBCLCs on a budget

MilkNotes

Full comparison

At $29.99/month, MilkNotes has purpose-built lactation charting created by an IBCLC with 30+ years of experience, plus built-in telehealth. The tradeoff: no invoicing, insurance claims, or practice management. If your practice is charting-focused and you handle billing separately, it is hard to beat.

Best for offline home visits

NuBloom

NuBloom is the only tool that works offline on phones, tablets, and laptops with selective sync for up to 500 patients. Mobile Lactation Consultant also supports offline, but only on iPad. Every other tool on this list requires an internet connection to chart.

Best for growing multi-provider teams

NuBloom or PracticeQ

Full comparison

NuBloom charges $39/seat with no feature restrictions. PracticeQ is cheaper at $25–30/seat and has the strongest form builder in the category. SimplePractice charges $69–74/seat and Healthie charges $50/seat — both add up fast with growing teams.

Best ecosystem and integrations

SimplePractice

Full comparison

SimplePractice has the largest third-party integration marketplace, built-in video telehealth, and the biggest user community among private practice clinicians. You pay for it — the Starter plan ($49) lacks messaging and reminders, so most practices need Essential ($79) or Plus ($99) — but the ecosystem is unmatched.

What NuBloom Doesn't Do (Yet)

No tool does everything. Here's where we have gaps.

Built-in video telehealth

Uses link integration (Zoom, Google Meet), not embedded video

AI voice-to-chart

On the roadmap — not yet available

Native mobile app

Coming soon; currently works in mobile browsers

E-fax to referring providers

Not supported; use a standalone fax service

Course and program hosting

Not a current focus; Healthie and Practice Better offer this
